Tusk

Tusk is about a man that just wants to give his friend Mr. Tusk a fighting chance. You can find the trailer here.

Tusk Poster. Wikipedia. Web. 13 Dec. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

Wallace and Teddy run a very popular podcast called the Not See Party. Their idea is for Wallace to go and interview interesting or weird people, and tell Teddy about the people. When Wallace finds someone interesting up in Canada, he takes a trip to go interview this man. What he finds is this man has a much more sinister plan for Wallace than just sharing stories. This man, Howard, has a bit of an obsession with walruses, and plans to use Wallace to fulfill that obsession.

Tusk seems like a pretty creepy movie, and it does have some gruesome parts, but there's a much lighter side hiding under it all. There are plenty of crazy and creepy parts in the movie, but there's also a thick layer of comedy over it all. The movie transitions between comedy and creepy almost instantly as the scenes change, and if you listen to the podcast where the movie was created, you can hear that there's a very light side to it's creation.

Tusk is a good movie, it was definitely fun to watch. If you can take the images, I'm sure it'll be a fun watch for you as well.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Another instant favorite of mine, Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a fantastic movie. It's a film about a man named Peter and his attempts at getting over his ex girlfriend when he unknowingly travels to the same resort as her. The trailer can be found here.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall Poster. Amazon. Web. 30 Nov. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

Peter Bretter is the composer for a crime scene style TV show that his girlfriend, well, ex girlfriend, Sarah Marshall, stars in. The break up leaves Peter devastated and in an attempt to get away, he takes a trip to a Hawaiian resort that just so happens to be the choice resort for Sarah and her new boyfriend, Aldous Snow. With the help of a kind desk attendant named Rachel Jansen, Peter is able to cheer up and manage despite many encounters with his ex.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a favorite of mine for so many reasons. I find the movie to be extremely funny, for one. There's plenty of situations and lines that have me laughing throughout the entire movie, and the type of comedy fits me well. Any other reasons you'll need to find for yourself, but I think that everyone will like this movie.

Little Miss Sunshine

This is a movie that everyone is sure to enjoy. If you've never seen it, the trailer is here, so take a minute or two and a half and at least watch the trailer.

Little Miss Sunshine was one of those instant favorites for me. If I remember correctly, the first time I saw this movie was when I went with my mom to the Mercyhurst Movie Series that they usually have each summer. They play movies that have won certain awards or won at festivals, and every time it's a great movie. Little Miss Sunshine had that effect when I saw it that made me want to instantly watch it again, and I think that happens to a lot of people.

Little Miss Sunshine Poster. NoMoreChildhood. Web. 30 Nov. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

Olive Hoover and her family seem like the most unlikely bunch, but they make it work; especially when it comes to Oliver competing in the Little Miss Sunshine pageant in California. With Oliver, there is her brother, Dwayne, who has taken a vow of silence, her dad, Richard, who can't seem to sell his self-help program, her mother, Sheryl, who seems sane, at least amongst those around her, Sheryl's brother Frank that just tried to commit suicide, and Richard's dad Edwin, that has a bit of a drug problem. When this mismatched bunch decides that Olive is going to compete in Little Miss Sunshine, they make sure she competes no matter what.

Little Miss Sunshine is an incredible movie, and it's definitely one of those that you should just take some time, sit down and watch. You won't be disappointed.

Our Idiot Brother

Our Idiot Brother. A movie about a very nice guy causing a lot of unintentional trouble in his sisters' lives. You can't really blame him though, he's just trying to be honest and do things right. You can find the trailer here.

Our Idiot Brother Poster. Amazon. Web. 30 Nov. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

Ned just sold some pot to a uniformed police officer; pretty dumb thing to do right? In Ned's case, it's not stupidity, but being too trustworthy and kind. Since getting out of jail, his hippie girlfriend moved someone else into her farm and won't let him take his dog, Willie Nelson, with him when he bounces from mom's house to sister's, sister's and other sister's house. What Ned sees as trying to do the right thing, his sisters see as being an idiot and blame him for a lot of problems that aren't really his fault.

Overall, Our Idiot Brother is a great movie that's worth some time. There's plenty of funny moments and lines, especially because Ned seems to be so spacey and happy all the time; what's wrong with that though? I think Our Idiot Brother is going to be very enjoyable for those that see the movie.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

This is a favorite of mine by far. You can find the trailer here.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Poster. Wikimedia. Web. 21 Nov. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

Scott Pilgrim had his heart broken by Envy Adams who is now the lead to a huge band, Clash at Demonhead. Scott's broken a few hearts himself, but when it comes to the new girl, Ramona Flowers, Scott fights for her, literally. If he wants to date Ramona, Scott has to defeat all seven of her Evil Exes in a battle to the death.

I could list so many reasons why this movie is one of my favorites, but I'm just going to throw a few out there. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World has a video game and comic book feel to it. What I mean by that is the giant K.O. that appears after a fight, or the way the word form of sounds come out on screen. I love it. The movie also keeps me laughing the whole way through. And I quite enjoy the music, (so much so that I bought the soundtrack to the movie).

Explaining why Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is one of my favorites might not really get the point across, so watching it for yourself may be the best way.

Trollhunter

If you're a fan of the homemade, amateur cameraman type films like Cloverfield or The Blair Witch Project, then you'll like this movie. If you don't like those types of movies, I still think that you should give this movie a shot. You can find the trailer here.

Trollhunter Poster. Wikipedia. Web. 22 Nov. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

Thomas, Johanna and Kalle are students at Volda University, and are creating a movie about illegal bear hunting occurring in Norway. They find a man named Hans, and, believing him to be the poacher, follow him trying to get some information. After Hans fails to shake and deter them, he agrees that they may tag along with him and film him and his job. Very quickly, the students learn that not all fairy tales are fiction.

Trollhunter sat in my queue on Netflix for some time. I had been told that it was an excellent movie and I had always planned to watch it, but I had been putting it off for awhile. I finally decided to watch it, and it is an awesome movie. It is filmed with one camera, meaning there are no shots that the students didn't take; it gives the movie a much more authentic feeling.

Like I and my friends said, Trollhunter is a great movie. It's definitely worth a watch whether you're looking for something like this or not.

Instructions Not Included

I happened to find this movie while just looking through different groups on Netflix, and I'm really glad I found it. The movie jumps back and forth between the Spanish and English languages, but don't let some reading scare you off from a great movie. Instructions Not Included in the most basic sense is about a single dad and the things he does and goes through for his daughter. It's a very funny and sweet movie that has a very bittersweet ending to it.

You can find the trailer here.

Instructions Not Included Poster. IMDb. Web. 21 Nov. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

Valentin lives the bachelor life in Acapulco avoiding commitment like a plague. Then one day, an old fling, Julie, shows up at his door and hands him a baby girl, his daughter. When Julie goes to pay the taxi, she never comes back and leaves Valentin with his daughter Maggie. Desperate to avoid the ever terrifying commitment, Valentin heads to Los Angeles to return Maggie to her mother. When he is unable to find Julie and is afraid of crossing the border with Maggie again because she might get taken away, he finds a job as a stuntman and begins to provide the best life he can for his daughter.

Around age seven, Maggie's mother wants to meet her daughter, and being the man that he is, Valentin doesn't do anything to try and stop her. Julie lives in New York and after they meet she starts a custody battle with Valentin; the reason being she is not okay with only seeing Maggie a few times a year.

The movie doesn't end there, but I don't want to spoil every last piece of it. Instructions Not Included is really a great film, full of comedy and a lot of happy, heart warming moments. Though, as I said, the ending is bittersweet, but it makes the movie worth it.

Snowpiercer

In Snowpiercer, the world has been frozen over and the last strands of humanity cling to life and sanity aboard a train. The train is no ordinary train though; it was designed to run forever, circling the globe each year, over and over. The trailer for Snowpiercer can be found here.

Snowpiercer Poster. Collider. Web. 21 Nov. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

Seventeen years ago there was an experiment to control global climate change, but this experiment backfired and now the Earth is frozen over. Life on the planet has been extinguished except for less than a handful of survivors that boarded the Snowpiercer. For some, Snowpiercer is salvation, a blessing, but for others, it's far worse than what could have been imagined. Those confined to the tail of the train that have been forced to live in cramped spaces with no possessions, no actual food, no nothing, have had enough and their unrest is about to boil over. With Curtis as their leader, those that inhabit the tail of the train are about to fight their way to the front and to change.

Snowpiercer is really an excellent movie. It has about as many twists in its story as the train does in it's track. It's fair to say it can be sort of brutal at times, but it avoids the gory side pretty much; obviously it's going to be pretty brutal fighting your way to the front in a cramped train. If you can make it past that, or if that doesn't bother you, Snowpiercer is definitely worth the watch.

Dumb and Dumber To

Dumb and Dumber To. The movie we've waited twenty years for. Unless you're my roommate that's never even seen the first. Can you really even call that living though?

You can find the trailer for the movie here.

Dumb and Dumber To Poster. IMDb. Web. 15 Nov. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

After twenty years, Harry and Lloyd are back at it. For the past two decades, Lloyd has been in a mental hospital and when Harry finally reveals to Lloyd that he can't come visit him anymore, Lloyd snaps out of it; only it was just a prank that he was playing on Harry. Harry's reason for not being able to visit Lloyd anymore is that he needs a new kidney, and when the two find out that Harry has a long lost daughter, they set out to find her in hopes that Harry can convince her to donate a kidney. At the same time, the two are entrusted with delivering a package to her that is very important.

Sound familiar? It's a very similar plot to the first Dumb and Dumber movie, but that doesn't mean that it is a bad movie. Dumb and Dumber To is a very funny movie, and while it reflects the first movie, it definitely has it's own story, moments, jokes and all such things.

Even if you're like my roommate, I still think that this is a movie that all would enjoy.

St. Vincent

St. Vincent is a great movie with plenty of laughs. The story centers around a young boy in need of a friend and a neighbor that's not so much of a people person. As the movie plays we get to see how the relationships Vincent has begin to change.

St. Vincent's a nice type of movie; the kind that makes you feel good or happier after seeing it. It has plenty of comedy throughout and the right amount of emotion to tug on your heartstrings a bit. The trailer is here if you would like to take a look.

St. Vincent Poster. IMDb. Web. 8 Nov. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

St. Vincent is about a grouchy old man that gets some new neighbors; a single mother trying to make things better for her son and herself. Maggie, the mother, works in a hospital and is often working late, therefore she finds a need for a babysitter. Vincent, the grouchy next door neighbor, offers to watch Oliver, Maggie's son, after school as an hourly job. What we believe to be a mean, gambling, drinking, old man turns out to be something completely different as we watch the days Oliver spends with this new friend.

Overall, St. Vincent is a very good movie. So if you feel like you're in need of a pick-me-up, I think this may do the trick.

Interstellar

          Incredible.

Now, I could leave the review at just that, and I kind of want to. Not for lack of effort or laziness, but because sometimes, a single word can be so powerful. It can so perfectly sum up a moment or feeling, or convey so much that so many words couldn't. I want to leave it at that because I feel like a single word by itself would tell so much.

But, I also feel that I want to explain myself. I'm the type of person that doesn't like to pick one thing over another, that doesn't like to leave something or say that something is bad, better or worse than something else because I feel like I'm going to be hurting something else's feelings. Saying that this movie was incredible isn't saying that the other movies or other movies in general can't stand with this movie, but it is a way to sum up the sheer immenseness and size of this movie. The unknown, the portrayals of what may be out there, the ideas in and of themselves, all of it makes this movie incredible; so much so that I didn't want to leave for some time, I didn't want to talk about it or how it was, I just wanted to sit and think. Almost like being in awe. Now, I know that's a lot, and I know that not everyone and maybe no one will have that reaction. Some might think it may be excessive or over the top, but that's the impact the movie had on me. And I can't really describe it.

You can find the trailer here.

Interstellar Poster. ComingSoon. Web. 7 Nov. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

The most basic summary of the movie is that mankind cannot survive on the Earth itself for much longer. Four people set out on a mission in order to find another suitable planet for life, or at the very least, to use the materials they have brought in order to colonize the planet so that humanity may survive.

It's a short summary, but there's so much more to take in and see when actually seeing this movie. You may not have the same kind of reaction to the movie as I did, but I couldn't imagine that you'd be disappointed by it.

Lone Survivor

I don't know how many of you might have heard the story of Marcus Luttrell, but if you have, you'll already have some knowledge of this movie. Marcus Luttrell was part of a SEAL Team that was attacked while deployed on a mission. There were four men in the team including Luttrell, and he was the only survivor of the mission. When a helicopter was sent in to evacuate Luttrell and the rest of his team, those on board also lost their lives, which made this one of the largest losses of life in SEAL history.

The movie Lone Survivor does an excellent job of capturing what Marcus and the men around him went through during that battle. As someone who has read the book, the two have many similarities, yet there are some differences as there always would be. One of the main reasons I'm doing this movie is because it is playing on campus this weekend, and also, Marcus Luttrell will be visiting our campus to speak this coming Wednesday, which is something that I personally believe will be very interesting.

The trailer can be found here.

Lone Survivor Poster. Wikipedia. Web. 6 Nov. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

Marcus Luttrell was part of a four man SEAL Team that was tasked with the identification and capture of a Taliban leader. Luttrell's team's job was to carry out reconnaissance on the area and the leader, and identify him. During the mission, a few goat herders stumble upon Luttrell and his team. The four men debate on whether or not to let the herders live, because living could jeopardize their mission. The men decide to allow the goat herders to leave and relocate to continue the mission. After some time, the SEAL team is found by Taliban fighters, and a deadly battle follows. The three men in Marcus' squad lose their lives along with all those that were aboard a helicopter that was sent to evacuate the team. Marcus ends up surviving because of the actions of a few men when they find him in the mountains. These men take him to their small town and protect him until he is able to be rescued and returned to a base.

I didn't tag anything with spoilers because this movie is based on a true story. I feel like the information could be found easily enough, but I also feel like, even if you don't see the movie, it's an incredible story that some may want to know.

Goats

Goats is about goats; not really, only a little bit. What the movie is really about is Ellis Whitman, his growing up and his family that, like everyone's, has some quirks. It's a very good movie and it really shows struggles that some people have to go through; struggles that may seem insignificant compared to the larger world and other peoples' problems. You can see the trailer for Goats here.

Nightcrawler

I'm trying to get back into the pattern that I happened to fall into in the past couple of weeks, and here's Nightcrawler coming out on Halloween. Nightcrawler was definitely worth the watch, and you can see the trailer here; although, the trailer gives you only a slight look into what really takes place during this film. Nightcrawlers are what they call the people in this movie that go out and try to get the shots that they can sell to news stations. This is what Louis Bloom becomes, and he happens to be very good at it.

Nightcrawler was excellent, one of those movies, like the others on here, that I'd go out and see again. It's very dark and is accompanied by plenty of suspense, which I believe makes it great for Halloween.

Nightcrawler Poster. ComingSoon. Web. 31 Oct. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

I imagine I'll probably end up covering a lot from the summary because there's so much that I think is better not to know.

Louis Bloom lives in L.A. and seems to be struggling to find work; we see almost instantly that he steals different things to then resell to make some money. As he is driving on the highway he comes upon a car accident where the police are trying to rescue the person inside. Right after Louis arrives at the scene to observe, a van pulls up with two cameramen trying to get shots of the scene that they can sell to the news stations. Soon after this event, Louis is out with his own camera and police scanner looking for a place he can get the best shots to sell. He quickly picks up the trade and learns that he has an excellent eye for the shocking shots that will keep people glued. With his success, he hires a man named Rick to help him during the night. As events unfold, we see that Louis is very different and willing to do things to get the perfect shot. It becomes very clear how far he is willing to go when we see the van from the very beginning in a collision right after we witness Louis tampering with it.

At one point, Louis witnesses a home invasion that leaves three dead, and he even films the two men that committed the crime as they leave. Instead of giving the evidence to the police, Louis removes certain parts of the tapes and then sells the remaining footage to a news station while he sits on the evidence so he can use it at a better time. In the end of the movie, we are shown that Louis now has two vans instead of one car and his company is still going.

Overall this is an excellent film. Louis is cutthroat and willing to do whatever it takes to move up. He is incredibly smart and takes everything into account when making a decision. There is obviously an entire movie worth of content that I left out of the summary, but I wanted to give an overview without giving everything away. If you still aren't very sure on whether to see the movie or not, take a look at the image below.

Lars and the Real Girl

Lars and the Real Girl is a movie about Lars and a not so real girl. It's a look into this shy, awkward guys life. The movie shows us what Lars struggles with and it also shows us how much people care about this sweet guy. It's a great movie that is certainly worth some attention, and the trailer for it is here.

Lars and the Real Girl Poster. IMDb. Web. 26 Oct. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

As I said, Lars and the Real Girl is about Lars and a not so real girl. Lars seems to be a bit of a loner. He lives with his brother, Gus, and sister-in-law, Karin, but he lives in the furnished garage which is almost like an apartment. Don't get the wrong idea though, it's not like his brother and wife has banished him to the garage; they still try to invite him to eat with them and spend time with them, but Lars does his damnedest to avoid that. One night out of the blue, though, Lars tells Gus and Karin that he has a visitor and asks them if they could put her up in the house while she's there. Happy to see Lars with someone, they gladly agree before seeing who is really visiting Lars. Her name's Bianca and she doesn't speak much English, though to everyone else, she doesn't speak at all. That's because she's a doll that Lars ordered online. Most people probably wouldn't brag about having a doll that's quite like this one, let alone start dating it, but to Lars, Bianca is very real and seems to be filling a very big hole in his life.

Early on, people are obviously a little wary and confused, but thanks to a few amazing people, Bianca becomes a regular person in the town with a life and friends, all because they care so much for Lars. As the time passes, Bianca becomes very sick and soon passes herself. Thanks to her though, Lars is able to overcome some very real hurdles in his life.

Lars and the Real Girl is an excellent movie; it makes you want to live in a town like that one. There's humor in this movie, and while it doesn't come from one liners and such like in the other movies, it's more situational and seen in the people's expressions or reactions. It's definitely a movie worth checking out, that brings a nice, happy story to us.

Guardians of the Galaxy

I know that this is out of my usual pattern of movies, but it's playing on campus, so I thought I'd put it in. Whether you've noticed or not, I've been trying to do a movie that is lesser known, at least to me, and a new release each week. Guardians of the Galaxy doesn't fall under either of those categories, (it shouldn't, it seemed quite big) but like I said, it's on campus, so I figured I'd talk about it if anyone was trying to decide whether to go or not.

Guardians of the Galaxy is a MARVEL movie, so that means it was adapted from a comic book. Like all of the other MARVEL movies, Stan Lee makes his appearance and it is really a very good movie. There's plenty of laughs throughout with a healthy dose of action, and some sad moments. You can watch the trailer here and then go check out the full movie at the Union.

Guardians of the Galaxy Poster 2. 2014. ComingSoon. Web. 24 Oct. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

In the beginning of the movie we see Peter Quill, as a child, get abducted by a space ship right after the passing of his mother. We see him again some years later on a foreign planet where Peter is searching for an object that someone is very interested in buying. Peter has become a Ravager in his new life; searching for and selling stuff to very interested buyers. This time though, Peter's target has some very extreme and secret powers that some might want to get their hands on. One in particular is named Ronan the Accuser. Ronan has been holding some grudges and when he finally gets his chance to take his revenge, it becomes up to Peter and the rest of The Guardians to stop him from achieving his goal.

Guardians of the Galaxy is a very good movie with a great story. The humor is fantastic and the action is packed. It really is a fun movie to go see, especially since it's right here on campus and free. So go give it a shot, and I doubt you'll regret it.

Fury

As I said before, it has been a very long time since I've seen a movie where people have actually stood up in the theater and clapped, but, again, this is a movie where I expected that to happen. While Fury might not be set on a single true story, it definitely gives the feel and impression of a story that has really happened; the movie is actually based on a number of accounts from people that actually participated in tanks during World War II. The trailer for Fury is here, but the trailer doesn't give the overall feel of the movie. I was lucky enough to be able to see the very first showing of this movie, and it was entirely worth it.

Fury Poster. Yahoo. Web. 17 Oct. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

Set during World War II, Fury follows the crew of a tank they named "Fury" as they work their way through the missions they are given and, at the same time, the war. Early on, what may seen as a mere child, Norman is sent to replace a fallen member of the tank "Fury." Norman's actual training for the war has been as a typist and it becomes obviously apparent that he has had no real experience in battle. We are able to watch Norman as he quickly changes into something that is unfamiliar to the Norman we see in the beginning of the film. In the end, "Fury" is left as the only defense against a company of SS German soldiers, and we get a glimpse at the humanity that still survives during wars.

Overall, Fury is an incredible movie that I found myself gripped to the entire time. It does an amazing job of showing the transformation of a soldier during the war, or more accurately, any war. We are able to see Norman as he enters the worst part of the war, and we can witness his transformation that happens over what we may believe to be only a few days. Everyone knows, "War is Hell," but I believe that this film does one hell of a job of really showing us that. If you get a chance and you enjoy war movies, Fury is a film that you do not want to miss, even if you don't particularly love war movies.

Stuck In Love

Stuck In Love sounds like what it is. The poster says, "A story about first loves and second chances," and there is really not too much trickery or twists to this movie. You could broadly classify this movie as a romantic comedy, and you wouldn't be wrong in doing that, but that isn't all there is to Stuck In Love. The trailer for it is here, and from the beginning of it you can tell that it's unique.

Stuck In Love Poster. IMDb. Web. 16 Oct. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

Stuck In Love centers around the Borgens family; a father, Bill, daughter, Samantha, son, Rusty, and ex-wife, Erica. The first three are writers, or writers in the making, with the father being successful, having published some books and garnered respect as an author. The daughter is in college, and as we learn in the beginning, she is getting her first book published; something that would be a huge moment in anyone's life. Rusty is still in high school and a massive fan of Steven King. Some jealousy shows when it is learned that Samantha is getting her book published under the same people that publish Mr. King, but all in all, everyone is happy for Sam. As for Erica, she and Bill are divorced, and while Bill has been holding on to hope for two years, she has remarried.

With a little push from his dad, Rusty goes looking for some life experiences; one of those coming in the form of the girl he's had his eye on in class. Samantha takes a different path. Having bore witness to her parents divorce, she avoids relationships and dating all together and instead looks only for company that she can cut loose in the morning. Throughout the movie, Bill fights a battle with whether to move on or to keep his promise to his wife, because as we come to find out, she waited for him.

I think that there is something in Stuck In Love that every person that watches it can relate to. Whether it's heartbreak, fear, uncertainty or anything else, everyone can probably see something familiar at some point. Stuck In Love is light, with a lot of comedy placed throughout, but it also carries a heavier side to it. Overall, it's a great movie that I believe is definitely worth a watch. Some or most might be put off by the story being centered around these few characters' relationships, but as I said, that's not all that the movie has to offer; don't let that stop you.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

I'm willing to bet that most everyone knows the title "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" and some might even remember reading the book. Well there's good news for all those people out there that don't like reading the books and just wait for the movies to come out: it's a movie now! So if you told your parents, "Heck naw," and refused to read the book when you were a wee little baby, you can finally go see the movie and find out the story that you've waited your whole life to watch.

I'm sure everyone has had one of those days; those days where it feels like everything says, "You seem like you've been having a good time lately, so here, have some of this." For Alexander, every day feels like one of those days, while it seems like everyone around him gets along perfectly. Tomorrow is Alexander's birthday and today he just had enough, so for his birthday wish, he wants everyone else to know what it's like to have one of those days; and what do you know, his wish came true.

Now, there's not much that I could spoil for you in this movie unless I explained every way that everything went wrong on Alexander's birthday, but where's the fun in that? Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is a fun movie to go see. You might go with family or you might just want to see something to lift your spirits, but whatever the case, this movie will cheer you up.

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil

At first glance, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil might look like another horror flick, where murderers run amok and whittle a group of people down, person by person; but take a closer look. You can watch the trailer here, and even through the short trailer you'll see that it isn't really what it seems like. If you had to sum it up into one sentence you might say that it's the opposite of all the other movies that involve college kids and a couple of hillbilly looking guys.

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil Poster. 2011. IMDb. Web. 8 Oct. 2014.

          Summary:
(Highlight the grey text boxes SPOILER with your mouse to see spoilers if you dare)

Tucker and Dale are just two misunderstood hillbillies looking to get away for a bit, and they finally have a place to get away to: their new vacation home. At the same time that Tucker and Dale are taking their vacation, a group of college kids decide to take a camping trip in the woods. As you can see from the poster Dale isn't an ugly guy, he's just.. different. The problem is Dale psychs himself out, and gets pretty nervous around the ladies. The first time that the hillbillies and college kids really meet is at a gas station, where Dale does his best to strike up conversation with a very pretty college girl named Allison. Because of the aforementioned psyching, Dale comes off just a bit creepy to these college kids; they react like he might be deranged or something, (weird right? He looks like such a nice guy on the poster.) Later on, while the college kids decide to go swimming, Tucker and Dale are fishing in the same lake, and save Allison when she almost dies. Tucker yells to the rest of the kids that they've got their friend, and the kids think that Allison is being kidnapped. Things begin to go downhill fast when the college kids start accidentally killing themselves while trying to rescue Allison from Tucker and Dale.

In my own opinion, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil is a great movie. It has plenty of one liners, "Are you okay?" along with the chaos caused by some oblivious people on both sides of the action. Granted, the movie gets somewhat bloody, which you don't really get from the trailer, but if you were to find a more mature trailer, which there are, you may see what I'm talking about. If you can make it past the blood or if blood simply does not bother you, and enjoy the movie for the humor it really has, it'll be worth it.
